Adoption resources for military families
Military families stationed overseas and within the US are not prohibited from adopting children from the US foster care system.
AdoptUSKids is working to help reduce barriers to adoption for military families. This includes providing free assistance to military families who are seeking to foster or adopt children from foster care.
Families stationed within the United States
Families stationed within the United States can apply to foster and adopt according to the rules of the state where you're stationed. Find out more about state foster care and adoption information where you’re stationed and how to get started. You can also speak with an adoption specialist by contacting us toll-free at 888-200-4005 or info@adoptuskids.org.
Families stationed overseas
Families stationed overseas can talk with a military adoption specialist by contacting us at 888-200-4005 or at info@adoptuskids.org. You can also find information and speak with a consultant at Military OneSource.
Adoption reimbursement program
The US Department of Defense has an adoption reimbursement program for qualified military families. These reimbursements can cover medical expenses and other fees related to adopting a child under 18 years of age, but they do not cover travel.
Find out more about this program through the National Military Family Association and Military OneSource or by contacting your personnel support unit.
